Emeka Simon Obe is a Professor of Electrical Engineering in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He is a COREN Registered Engineer and a Member Nigerian Society of Engineers and Member IEEE. He obtained B. Eng. Degree in 1994, M. Eng., 1999 and Ph.D. in 2002; all in Electrical Engineering and from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He started his career in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka as a Graduate Assistant in 1997 and rose to become a professor in 2010. His research interests include Electrical Machines and Drive Systems, and Electric Power and Energy Systems. He has held numerous positions in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. They are: Development Officer to the Vice Chancellor, 2010 – 2013; Director, National Centre for Equipment Maintenance and Development, 2012 – 2014; Director, Computer Communications Centre, 2014 – 2018; Coordinator, International Interventions Programs, 2016 – 2019; Head Department of Electrical Engineering Department, 2016 – 2019; Associate Dean, Faculty of Engineering, 2018-2020; Alumni of International Deans Course (IDC) of University of Osnabruck, Germany, 2022; and the Dean, Faculty of Engineering, 2020 – 2022.
He has been on several research visits outside Nigeria. They include: Visiting Research Scholar, Center for Electric Power Research, Tennessee Technological University, Cookeville, sponsored through an Office of Naval Research Grant, USA in 2004; Post-Doctoral Fellow, University of the Ryukyus, sponsored by Matsumae International Foundation, Japan, 2005. Others are: Visiting Research Scholar, Centre for Energy Systems Research, Tennessee Technological University, sponsored through an Office of Naval Research Grant, USA in 2006; Post-Doctoral Fellow, Technische Universitat Darmstadt, Sponsored by Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Germany 2008-2009 and Visiting Professor at Botswana International University of Science and Technology, Palapye, Botswana, 2022 – date. He is an Associate Editor of IET Electric Power Applications of UK and also a Member of Editorial Board of Electric Power Components and Systems (ECPS), USA. He was the Editor-in-Chief, Nigerian Journal of Technology, 2011 - 2022.
He has supervised and graduated 19 Master’s degree students and 11 Doctoral degree students. He has published over 87 journal articles and conference papers. He engages in community services which include Adjunct Professorship in Enugu State University of Science and Technology, 2020 – date; Federal University of Technology, Owerri, 2010 – 2014 and University of Agriculture Makurdi, 2011 – 2019. External postgraduate and professorial appraisal assessor to several universities in Nigeria and outside Nigeria; External Assessor to Nigerian National Merit Award, Abuja, 2014; Interview Panelist for Shell Producing Nigeria Company Postgraduate Scholarship Awards 2014 and 2015. Member, Technical/Advisory Committee of National Board for Technology Incubation (NBTI) Enugu under the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, 2014-2016; Examiner, Humber Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning, Toronto, Canada. He was a Panel Reviewer on the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the proposed 132/33kV, 1X 30MVA Substation at Ekim Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State by Akwa Ibom State Government, May 2017. He undertook the development of B.Eng. programme curricula for Nuclear Science and Nuclear Engineering with National Atomic Energy Commission (NAEC) in Abuja, 2020 – 2023. He is a Fellow Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (Jan. 2008).
